Bound in 19th c. brown morocco (corners bumped, hinges rubbed, boards framed by a double rule, gilt. Spine in compartments with author, title, printer, and date in gold. A very good copy, v. light toning, pencil line numbers in parts, scattered annotations. Divisional woodcut title for the Bucolics. General title and div. title for Aeneid with Plantin device. Provenance: Ch. Therouenne, 1652 (inscription on title), Lucy Wharton Drexel, Boies Penrose II, bookplates. Unidentified 16th or 17th c. engraved armorial bookplate.

Based on the Aldine edition of 1565, with the observationes of Georg Fabricius (1516-1571), and the annotationes of Paulus Manutius. This copy is uncensored, with the Priapeia forming the final section (p. 104-136) of the text.
