Bound in 16th c. Italian blind-tooled calfskin, re-cased, probably a remboîtage, some wear, hinge repairs, corners bumped. Re-sewn, some light staining, softness, and a few chips to the edges of the first few signatures, occ. minor marginal stains elsewhere, wear to upper corner of text block for first 60 lvs. The majority of the volume clean. Some early marginal annotations in the Eclogues, some faded due to damp. Imprint copied in an early hand onto title page.

This edition was edited and financed by Alessandro Vellutello, who also produced important editions of Petrarch (1525) and Dante (1544). Vellutello followed the text of the Giunta edition and borrowed variants from the Castigationes of Piero Valeriano.
